Borrowed Time

Filmmaker Friday: Ben Robinson

March 08, 2019

Filmmaker Friday is back! To kick off this season, Ben Robinson shares his favourite animated short, even though he needs a box of tissues to get through it:

If you haven’t watched “Borrowed Time” yet, do yourself a favour and take 6 minutes out of your day to do so. This is one of the best short films I’ve ever seen, and the only animated film (besides “Up”, “Land Before Time,” and “Lion King”) to make me cry. Ok, I cry easy, but this is still a damn good short.

The animation is flawless, from the epic evening sky, to smaller details like a character’s hair blowing in the wind. It’s no wonder the artistry is so well done, seeing as it took over 6 years to make this little piece.

The writing is also flawless. With almost zero dialogue they’re able to tell a story of loss, guilt, redemption and retribution in only 6 minutes – no easy feat.

Hope you enjoy, and grab a tissue.
